Why You Must Tape Your Hockey Stick

Hockey tape is a beneficial item used by professional and new hockey players. Until a few years ago, when players used wooden hockey sticks, they would tape them mostly to protect them from wear and tear. With hybrid sticks being the norm nowadays, players use tape to grip the sticks easier and improve puck control.

The sports grip tape, made from a durable poly-cotton cloth, can withstand beating no matter where you put it on your stick. Plus, the zigzagged edges make it easy to tear to length, so you can use it and return to the game. The tape will not leave remnants behind on your stick. It works great on the stick toe to enhance puck control, sticks well, and doesn't come off until you remove it.

The grip tape is a cohesive material. It sticks to itself and not to other surfaces. The grip tape sports are available in both elastic and non-elastic materials. The former is softer and easier to use than the non-elastic ones, which are abrasive.

The immediate benefit of tape for your hockey stick is that it controls moisture collection while playing a game. Extra moisture can loosen your grip and damage your hockey blade. Taping a hockey stick handle and blade helps retain the stick's strength and durability.

What you should know before buying a hockey tape?

1] Length and thickness

The ideal hockey tape should be 1"–1.5" wide and can be 20 yards long or more. When taping your hockey stick adequately, it is better to have a longer tape. It helps keep the stick durable, enhances your stick handling skill, and eventually leads to a better game.

2] Material:

Consider what material your stick is made with - wooden or composite? Hockey tapes are made differently for sticks with different materials.

Hockey shoe laces:

As necessary, the tape is for your hockey stick; hockey pro laces are for your shoes. They're one of the most essential equipment elements for a hockey player. Laces help secure your feet and ankles for better safety and give you the support you need for maximum control on the ice. Laces are of two types - waxed and non-waxed.

Waxed hockey laces come with a thin layer of wax throughout their length, making them feel sticky and giving a better grip on the skate's eyelet when you tie your skates. Non-waxed laces are similar to the standard rope laces used for sneakers, trainers, cleats, and other shoes but are thicker and more rigid.

Waxed laces are more effective in retaining tightness but are difficult to tie because of having a firmer grip on the eyelets. These laces are ideal for new users and children. These laces are durable as they don't stretch or absorb moisture.

The non-waxed laces are excellent for seasoned skaters who can easily tie their laces. The laces are soft and less rigid, allowing you to flex your feet in your skates. However, they don't hold tight and stretch and loosen more easily.
