As world is going mobile, it is essence of business to go with mobile app to assure reach to masses of people. Having a mobile app is not only enough; it should get searched and downloaded by people too. With over 200 million app in Google play, getting discovered is one the major challenges. I wrote this article when I successfully optimized our BusinessVibes B2B App and ranking for 95 % our targeted keyword.

This post will give you a brief summary to how to optimize your business app and get indexed. I will also put light on how to select keyword for app store optimization.

App Search Methods

Before proceeding ahead, we should understand that how people use to get know about mobile app.

  • General internet Browsing and search on App store
  • Through Social Network Website
  • Mouth to Mouth advertisement
  • Browsing app with good review
  • Most Popular App list    
  • Seeing an ad in magazine or on online media

Primarily app with more good review and popularity are intended to be download, Secondary similar apps are downloaded.

Primary factor in optimizing Google Play App store

Title & Name: Keyword selection should be done very carefully and select keyword which have heaviest traffic. Spend time to get a final list of your keywords as it will be detrimental to include keyword often. According to 2014 Data, it has been found that app with keyword ranked 10.3% higher than those without keyword. It is a good practice to add important keyword in App name. It should be also considered that play store looks for small keyword and it is opposite in web version. I have considered an app name that contains the main keyword I.e. BusinessVibes: B2B Marketplace. I have considered my brand name as we have we do not wanted to lose our brand name while optimization.

Keyword selection and optimization: We should know each targeted and relevant keyword. We should focus on keywords which are used most often by targeted audience. Therefore it is important to include targeted keyword in App name and description. I used free App store keyword tool to select keyword and then finally with selected keyword we had done moz keyword difficulty analysis. Using keyword in description is the key, we can use targeted keyword 4-5 time to enhance result. We have done it successfully for B2B Social Network and B2B marketplace.

Localization: Localization of application according to your targeted audience is important. Localization of app refers to adapting an app to a country and its language.

Screenshots Optimization: While google play search is in its nascent stage there is a scope of improvement in its screen shot section. Add explanation to your screenshot rather than uploading original screenshot. You can make it descriptive but it should be kept in mind that it should not affect look and feel.

App Type & Category: Google play has both application, games and books, it is important to select according to your app. It will help bots to and tell the type of application we are running.

Include a G+ Plugin: Many organizations still miss this G+ plugin on app store and app. Good number of  G+’s gives you more probability to be visible in Google Play. It gives a positive signal to bot and it is an easy way to tell bot that we have a good App.

App Indexing: If you have a website and have mobile app for same, then app indexing becomes very important. Connect website and mobile app in google play developer console, Enable deep linking, enable intent filter in android manifest file, annotate these link in sitemap file and allow google to crawl URLs requested by App.
