There are Ways to Stop Hatred and Improve American-Iranian Relations

American-Iranian relations are not limited to international relations. The United States must cultivate positive interaction with people who are Iranian in the USA. These people play an important role in American society. They work hard and pay their taxes. They offer a glimpse into another culture. They are part of the melting pot upon which the country was founded. Lately, there is a new threat to the Iran-United States relations in the U.S. and abroad, and it is critical people become educated in what is factual and what is false.

Iran-United States Relations

Basic government classes in high school teach students an undeniable truth: Iran-United States relations have not always been positive. In fact, the relationship between the two countries has been tumultuous throughout the last several decades. Nonetheless, Iran provides an important export to the U.S. and the U.S. has the power to help improve the political and human rights climate in Iran. Both countries benefit from a mutual relationship, and American-Iranian relations must be a top priority.

Problems in the States

As a result of the conflicts in Iran, not only between the country and other countries but also between the people and its government, many Iranians have fled to the United States seeking safety and a better life. If you study the American Revolution, you realize that this is what the U.S. was founded upon and what it offers anyone who enters the country. As engraved in the Statue of Liberty, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” This is what America is all about.

It’s hard to tell if it’s because most of those born in the States do not understand severe affliction, or if it’s because of the falsehoods that were spread during the 2016 presidential election and are currently being spread by The White House, but for some reason, some Americans are not willing to accept the tired and poor huddled masses. In fact, during the 2016 presidential and since the president elect has taken office, hate crimes against the Middle Eastern American population have increased. This is not good American-Iranian relations.

Check the Facts

As with all hate crimes, ignorance is the number one reason people behave the way they do. They believe something about a person that simply isn’t true. The Iranian population, formerly the Persian population, has brought a many great things to the world over the centuries, and the Iranian-Americans not only love the United States, but work hard to make it a better place. One way they do so is by opening Iranian-American community centers to education people on the Iranian culture and the plight Iranian people face in their home country.

Don’t fall victim to perpetuated hate. If you hear something negative from The White House, the news, or even online, it’s important to research the facts to ensure what’s being said is accurate. American-Iranian relations are crucial to the health of the U.S., and the people here came to the U.S. with same dreams your ancestors had. Help improve relations by learning the facts and getting involved to improve the relationship between Americans and Iranians.
