The time has come to use new technology in laying roads and driveways. The existing techniques have outlived their existence. In addition to causing problems in drainage, they contribute to the pollution levels as well. Hence, they are not eco-friendly. There is a need for a switchover to a new technology known as resin bound technology. You have already seen the benefits of resin bound driveways in an earlier blog. This blog explains the difference between resin bound driveways and resin bonded driveways.
The biggest problem with the existing driveways is the drainage and environmental pollution. The resin bound driveways take care of both these aspects. Let us look at the technique in brief before looking at the resin bonded driveways as well.
This is a unique technique that helps bind resin to the decorative aggregate. You have DIY kits available in the market as well. However, it is always better to let an expert handle the job. This technique consists of three main activities.
1. Base preparation: One should ensure that the tarmac or concrete base on which you would lay these driveways should be dry and free from dust. It is better to sweep the area clean before laying the SUDwell resin drives. An important part to note here is the timing. The resin bonds can cure within 15 minutes. Therefore, you should be ready with the preparation.
2. Mixing the Resin Bound Gravel: Mixing the resin bound gravel is vital. Remove around 1/3 of the stone aggregate and keep it aside. Pour the remaining stone in a mixing tub and create a small well to add the resin mixture. You have two resin mixes, A and B. Mix them together until you get a uniform colouring. Add this mixture to the well in the mixing tub. Add the stones you had kept aside on top. Now mix the stone and resin together for a couple of minutes to ensure that the stones are coated with resin and have a wet appearance.
3. Laying your resin bound surface: Pour the mixture slowly on the surface that you had cleaned in the first step. Ensure there is no dry stone in the mix. Level the resin bound mixture using a squeegee or a shovel. Floating out the material with a plasterers float is necessary. Smooth out the finishes. Your resin bound driveway is ready.
The basic difference is the resin bonded driveways is that you create a combined mix of the base, resin, and aggregate and then scatter it across the pathway. One should remember that the resin can dry very fast. Hence, contacting an expert to lay the roads is the right thing to do. One should also ensure that the coating is even throughout. One should do so at the first instance itself because it can become difficult to level the roads after the drying of the resin.
The basic advantage of using resin bonded driveways is that water can percolate through the resin into the ground thus helping in effective drainage.
