Urticaria is a common reaction pattern characterized by the presence of swelling of different parts of body and lasting for less than 24 hours.
Causes
1. Allergens in food.
2. Heat/cold pressure, exercise.
3. Jaundice.
4. Pregnancy.
5. Intestinal worms.
6. Medicines-painkillers, antibiotics, antihypertensives, codeine.
Signs & Symptoms
Urticaria is associated with diffuse swelling of the tongue or throat. It may occur anywhere on the body. Sometimes breathlessness, abdominal pain, headache and even lifethreatening shock can occur.
Herbal Medicines
1. Haridra is a popular home remedy. The powder should be taken ½ Tsp twice daily with water.
2. Gairika (red ochre) is another popularly used remedy in this condition. One Tsp of it mixed with Honey taken three times a day.
3. In acute cases mustard oil mixed with salt should be applied over the body.
Ayurvedic Remedies
1. Sutsekhara Rasa (simple) 1 tab. three times a day.
2. Kamdudha Ras 1 tab. (of 125 mg) 1 tab three times a day.
3. Haridra Khand 1 teaspoonful mixed with warm cup of milk at bedtime.
4. Urtiplex tablet (Charak) 1 tab. 4-6 times a day.
Do's & Don'ts
The patient should be de-wormed if regularly affected.
