Urticaria

  Urticaria Urticaria is a common reaction pattern characterized by the presence of swelling of different parts of body and lasting for less than 24 hours.   Causes 1. Allergens in food. 2. Heat/cold pressure, exercise. 3. Jaundice. 4. Pregnancy. 5. Intestinal worms. 6. Medicines-painkillers, antibiotics, antihypertensives, codeine.   Signs & Symptoms Urticaria is associated with diffuse swelling of the tongue or throat. It may occur anywhere on the body. Sometimes breathlessness, abdominal pain, headache and even life­threatening shock can occur.   Herbal Medicines 1. Haridra is a popular home remedy. The powder should be taken ½ Tsp twice daily with water. 2. Gairika (red ochre) is another popularly used remedy in this condition. One Tsp of it mixed with Honey taken three times a day. 3. In acute cases mustard oil mixed with salt should be applied over the body.   Ayurvedic Remedies 1. Sutsekhara Rasa (simple) 1 tab. three times a day. 2. Kamdudha Ras 1 tab. (of 125 mg) 1 tab three times a day. 3. Haridra Khand 1 teaspoonful mixed with warm cup of milk at bedtime. 4. Urtiplex tablet (Charak) 1 tab. 4-6 times a day.   Do's & Don'ts The patient should be de-wormed if regularly affected.
